About this site

Truth About Russian Brides is an independent fact-check desk on Russian women and international marriage. It started as a web site in 2003 and has been rebuilt as a sourced reference.

Who publishes it

The site is published by Agence CQMI, which also operates a matchmaking agency for clients in several countries. We say so plainly because it affects how you should read us. We have no profiles and sell nothing on this site; where we mention the agency, we label it. The standard we apply to everyone, including ourselves, is the one in the IMBRA guide and the toolkit.

How a claim is checked

  • We state the claim as people state it, in one sentence.
  • We go to a primary source: a statute, a government page or a dataset such as the World Bank indicators.
  • We stamp it MYTH, FACT or IT DEPENDS, and we give the source and the date we consulted it.
  • Where no dataset exists, we say so instead of inventing a number.

The restored archive

Earlier versions of this site, captured by the Internet Archive between 2003 and 2016, contained essays and many pages we could not use: lists of women, advertisements, order forms and affiliate links. We restored only the four essays that could be published responsibly. A script removed bylines, testimonials, promotional passages and sentences broken by the old capture; each essay now sits beside a fact check. The articles we did not restore were left out deliberately, for example because they promoted a paid ebook or an agency.

Images

Illustrations are generated with artificial intelligence and do not depict real, identifiable people. They are decoration, not evidence about anyone.
